Mangrove Restoration
The United Nations Ocean Agency reports that these coastal forests have an estimated worth of about $33,000 to $57,000 per hectare per year. Coastal communities in Kenya benefit immensely from the value of their mangroves. Mangroves provide; coastal protection, biodiversity protection, carbon storage, and a food and livelihood source.
Climate Education
Our educational workshops emphasize the need for integrated thinking by conserving, restoring and sustainably managing our natural ecosystems in a coherent and inclusive way, and coordinating management and governance actions across local, national and regional scales.
Youth-led Activism
We organize litter cleanups to remove trash and help participants understand the extent of pollution. Climate strikes. Youth from all over the country come together to put pressure on national and business leaders to take action to safeguard a sustainable and liveable future.

Trees play a crucial role in the well-being of our planet. Planting trees has been proven to be a fast way of transforming dry and arid land.
Areas with more trees experience frequent rains, and thus, planting trees is a perfect way to stabilize weather patterns.
Trees provide habitats for birds and animals. In a tree habitat, animals can obtain everything they need to survive, like food, water, and shelter.
Trees also absorb gases, like carbon dioxide and methane, and - in exchange - release oxygen for other living organisms, reducing the greenhouse effect.
By focusing our efforts on expanding Kenyan forests, mangroves and other natural systems, we are playing an active role in supporting the wellbeing of our environment, community and country.

Tracy Omballa
Vice ChairpersonImpact-driven professional in media and communications with more than 10 years of national and international experience working in media, a passion for the environment, and a drive to change the world. Sallyann Munguti
SecretaryTo effectively mitigate and adapt to climate change, we must first alter our attitudes and actions. We ought to alter the system and adopt environmentally favorable inclinations. Let’s ensure that future generations enjoy the earth and its rich resources by safeguarding it as a home to man and many other species. With the Greening Kwetu Initiative, I’m encouraged to assume responsibility and take climate action.

Alex Jimei
TreasurerI am an environmental scientist who specializes in land conservation. I do environmental impact studies and design monitoring systems to solve environmental problems in the community. The timing of the Greening Kwetu Initiative is accurate to the present climate crisis and forest degradation. I look forward to making valuable contributions to saving our planet.
