About Us

We're transforming how Kenyans engage with their environment.

  • Improving citizen participation in our projects is important because it helps citizens exercise their democratic rights through combined involvement of ordinary people and multiple stakeholders.

Utilizing the grassroots approach has helped our organization gain trust, acceptance and sustainability.

We're creating positive change.

  • Trees play a crucial role in the well-being of our planet. Planting trees has been proven to be a fast way of transforming dry and arid land.

Areas with more trees experience frequent rains, and thus, planting trees is a perfect way to stabilize weather patterns.

Trees provide habitats for birds and animals. In a tree habitat, animals can obtain everything they need to survive, like food, water, and shelter.

Trees also absorb gases, like carbon dioxide and methane, and - in exchange - release oxygen for other living organisms, reducing the greenhouse effect.

By focusing our efforts on expanding Kenyan forests, mangroves and other natural systems, we are playing an active role in supporting the wellbeing of our environment, community and country.

"We can change so much in the world"

Phyllis Mwambu

Chairperson

My passion for social change and climate activism led me to train as a leader with several international leadership development programs. Interacting with like-minded, mission-driven professionals on a global platform has largely shaped my unique perspectives and aspirations today.

Tracy Omballa

Vice Chairperson

Impact-driven professional in media and communications with more than 10 years of national and international experience working in media, a passion for the environment, and a drive to change the world. We must reduce both our emissions and our carbon footprint on the atmosphere, which includes using less petroleum-based substances and begin to think more circularly and long-term.

Sallyann Munguti

Secretary

To effectively mitigate and adapt to climate change, we must first alter our attitudes and actions. We ought to alter the system and adopt environmentally favorable inclinations. Let’s ensure that future generations enjoy the earth and its rich resources by safeguarding it as a home to man and many other species. With the Greening Kwetu Initiative, I’m encouraged to assume responsibility and take climate action.

Alex Jimei

Treasurer

I am an environmental scientist who specializes in land conservation. I do environmental impact studies and design monitoring systems to solve environmental problems in the community. The timing of the Greening Kwetu Initiative is accurate to the present climate crisis and forest degradation. I look forward to making valuable contributions to saving our planet.
